The article explores the Autistic community as a living ecology, utilising the concepts of rhizomes and mycelium to illustrate support systems that facilitate belonging and recovery from burnout. It critiques education, healthcare, and capitalism for their neuro-normative biases, which marginalise Autistic experiences and contribute to burnout and trauma. The community provides safe spaces for co-regulation, mutual aid, and collective knowledge, fostering alternative engagement models and advocating for neurodivergent design. This approach seeks to reshape systems from their foundations to accommodate diverse ways of being, supporting new imaginaries of participation that honour Autistic identities and promote transformative futures.
